Choosing the right photographer | New England Portrait Photography

When it comes to choosing a photographer for your wedding here are some things to keep in mind after finding photographers who work for your budget!

What style of photography do you like? And do they shoot in that style? Some common styles of wedding photography include

  • Photojournalistic- they capture the big and small moments of the day, tending to focus on candid images
  • Traditional- they tend to focus on shooting posed images
  • Artistic- they shoot creative photos with unique angles or a focus on abstract compositions

Make sure to learn about what they include in their wedding packages. Do you download your images or get a USB? Do they offer prints and albums? How can your friends and families see or buy the images?

Make sure they are available for your wedding date. Many photographers book at least a year in advance.

Most importantly, book an engagement session with whatever photographer you choose. It's the perfect way to get to know each other and for your photographer to get an idea of what you like!

To make sure you're on the same page as your photographer on the big day here are some important questions to ask!

  • How far in advance do I need to book with you?
  • What is included in the cost for your services?
  • How would you describe your photographic style? (traditional, creative, etc.)
  • Will you be the one shooting my wedding or will you send someone else?
  • Do you offer a second photographer to assist on the wedding day?
  • How long is your coverage of the wedding day?
  • When will you arrive? When will you leave?
  • Is it ok for guests to photograph while you're taking photos?
  • What products do you offer, and can I customize them?
  • How long after the wedding will it take for me to get the images?
  • How much of a deposit will you require?
  • When will I receive a written contract?
  • Will family and guests be able to order photos from you?
