PREPARING FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

  • It is essential that you are well rested on the day of your session. You want you to look your best, and getting enough sleep the night before is an excellent first step. Allow yourself extra time to perfect your wardrobe, style yourself, and travel.
  • We recommend arriving for your session early and take the opportunity to enjoy a few moments of relaxation before we begin.
  • Feel free to accessorize your portraits with any props or clothing you would like to bring along and discuss while shooting. We create timeless pictures that are natural, relaxed and pure, and we find that keeping themes simple allows for real moments,
  • expressions and interactions. We do suggest each couple has two outfits. One for everyday casual and one that serves as a "going out" outfit
  • We recommend having your hands free throughout the session. We suggest if you need to carry extra clothing, a purse, drinks, or anything else.
  • Please contain it in small rolling suitcase tor (large locations and parks that require walking) or a backpack that can be easily lifted and stashed with your photographer (beaches, nature shots & cobblestone city streets)
  • Half-way through the session, you can have a chance to change and freshen up. But most of the time it will be with your photographer and their equipment.
  • We encourage you to embrace whatever mood you feel during your session. Feel free to relax, laugh and have a good time.
  • Portraits are best when you are yourself. It’s important to remember that just because there is a camera pointing at you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be looking at the camera. Sometimes the most influential images are created when you are interacting with one another and enjoying a moment as opposed to posing

PREPARING FOR YOUR NEWBORN SESSION

  • During our session attendance at a photo, sessions are limited to those being photographed, including siblings. In the case of children and newborns, participation is limited to two parents. Twin newborn sessions may include one additional caregiver or family member.
  • Please do not bring siblings, personal assistants, nannies, caregivers, or friends not being photographed. Having additional people present can be distracting to both the photographer and those being shot.
  • Cameras of any kind are not permitted at our shoot. This includes camera phones.
  • Please arrive on time for your session correctly dressed, made up and ready to begin. Because the session is of a set length, additional time for preparation will reduce the amount of time we can spend in-session and will limit the number of images we can capture.
  • In our experience, nude newborn photographs best. Newborn clothing rarely fits their little bodes; Babies seem to get swallowed up by clothes. Besides, the goal of this session is to remember those tiny small features!
  • Props: We have a selection of accessories we will bring for you to choose from. We have a large selection of baskets, blankets, hats, headbands and a few costumes. However, we love it when clients incorporate some of their personalities into a shoot.
  • Receiving blankets, handmade gifts, special mementos or classic stuffed animals and toys are always welcome.
  •  We will likely be taking one or two long breaks for feedings and changing. We suggest you have supplies on hand such as extra bottles, formula, burp cloths and pacifiers. We know how challenging having a newborn is. Once we arrive, we typically take it from there. Relaxed parents have more fun, and your baby will respond to that energy. Our goal is to focus on capturing a series of portraits of your newborn baby alone. We also want to include parents and siblings too. Typically the day of a session we will do the infant first then incorporate family towards the end of the session.
  • Concerning settings, we will be looking for the largest workspace in your home with most available light.

WHAT TO WEAR | TIPS & TRICKS!

  • Simplicity is always best, so when in doubt keep in mind that “less is more.”
  • Feel free to bring two outfits.
  • Avoid large bold patterns and stripes, as they often will conflict with other elements.
  • Avoid logos, as they can be visually distracting. Feel free to bring your favorite team jersey if we are shooting at Fenway or Gillette.
  • Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best, as they complement skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements.
  • Wear clothing that fits properly. A proper fit that allows you to move and feel comfortable will help you look more confident in your portrait.
  • Always dress in a full length in mind, including shoes and socks in your wardrobe consideration. Shoe styles should be simple and not distracting
  • If you wear glasses regularly, you should wear them for your session as we want you to look like you usually do. Don’t worry about shine or glare, as we know how to look for these things and photograph accordingly.
  • We usually recommend wearing minimal jewelry for your portrait. Jewelry that you wear on a daily basis is excellent. If you do wear jewelry, it should be kept simple, and its color should be neutral and non-distracting.
  • Please remove any hair elastics or Livestrong type bracelets around your wrists and keep them with your baggage or in a back pocket. Cell phones should be in your bags as they will create creases and curves in your pockets.
  • Apply makeup and style your hair as you usually would. Now is not the time to try out a new haircut or a unique style of makeup that you aren’t comfortable with.
